......Blues circuit guitarist/singer Davis Coen's most recent accomplishments have included original instrumental music on the DVD release of director Martin Scorsese's PBS special 'The Blues'; backup guitar on the lastest album by recently passed "Queen of the Mississippi Hillcountry Blues Singers" Jesse Mae Hemphill, entitled 'Dare You To Do it Again' (along with live vocal/guitar performances on its DVD accompaniment); and as often as three times daily airtime on XM Satellite Radio, channel 74, through spring/summer '06; achieving No. 1 position for the week of July 8th. In addition Coen's music gets sporatic airplay on Sirius Satellite radio as well as numerous other blues programs in the U.S., Europe, Australia, and South America.

Mike Milligan & Steam Shovel, $5

From Kokomo, Indiana, Mike began playing guitar in 1977 at age 6. Mike grew up hearing his father's soul-rock bands. As a boy, he traveled with them and the Drifters in the mid 1970's throughout the southern United States. He recieved his first guitar at age 5. He purchased his first electric guitar at age 10 with paper route money. His vocals and guitar have been called "gritty and soulful" and have been compare to many. He formed Steam Shovel in the Summer of 1993 and named the band after his favorite childrens book by Viginia Lee Burton, "Mike Mulligan and his Steam Shovel". "My mom bought the book for me from a garage sale when I was a boy. Recently, I've contacted the author's children, who are in their 70's, and they were delighted to see what the band's been doing. They also put a copy of "All My Life" in the National Library of Congress along side their mother's books", Mike said. Its seems that Mike writes music that is appreciated and enjoyed by all ages. You may catch him performing with the band or solo electric, acoustic 12 string, or National steel, at a Blues Sunday School, an elementary or high school, and then at a venue that night, always sharing the music... Mike cites his father, "Big" Mike, Robert Cray, Tad Robinson, Howling Wolf, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Doyle Bramhall (1 and 2), Stevie Wonder, Al Green, Donny Hathaway Jimi Hendrix, Albert King and Collins.(get the picture?) as his mentors. Mike formed Steam Shovel in the summer of 1993, and has performed with/opened for: The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Robert Cray, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Buddy Guy, Al Green, Tower of Power, Sam Lay, W.C. Clark, Lonnie Brooks, Ronnie Baker Brooks, Joe Bonamassa, Chris Duarte, BB King, and was named "Best Blues Band in Indiana" in 2002 @ The Slippery Noodle Inn by the Crossroads Blues Society of Indiana!

For the 5th year in a row, a blues bash staple heads back where we started. From high noon until 6pm-ish, JEFF NORWOOD'S PUSH PILIN, Tommy Thunderfoot, and My Buddy Todd will lead an invitational , electric jam including some of the Lowcountry's (and beyond) finest blues musicians. As acoustic music and All-U-Can-Eat Oysters continue on the outside, watch out as the the highlight of the day gets set on the inside.

This year's headliner? For about the past decade, Mississippi-born JIMBO MATHUS has strived for a sound that incorporates the whole of Southern music and history, from rock ‘n’ roll to country to soul to blues, and populated by the people and places of the region. With Confederate Buddha, Jimbo Mathus and THE TRI-STATE COALITION have accomplished that goal. The new album covers the above genres along with jazzy New Orleans funk, Memphis soul and the other sounds of the South, including honky-tonk country and gospel.

Scissormen, $5

Description
Guitarist and front man Ted Drozdowski, who also happens to be a music writer of some renown, is happy to use a whiskey bottle (or almost any other weapon of mass destruction you can imagine) as a slide for his guitar. He’s not afraid to walk the bar, either, despite treacherous encounters with low-hanging ceiling fans. With R.L. Hulsman on drums, Scissormen call themselves “a modern juke joint blues band with old roots and new shoots” and they’ve created a highly listenable guitar-driven blues that will make you dance till you’re breathlessly begging for more. How Connecticut native Drozdowski manages to wring so much Delta dirt from his guitar is worthy of a longer answer elsewhere, but I sure like the sound of his playing. And the understated, slow burn of his singing is well worth a listen, too

Every once in a while, an artist emerges from the Deep South and bursts fully mature upon the blues scene. Eric Culberson is one of those few. His style is unmistakably authentic, energetic, and blessed with sex appeal and charisma. He is a breath of fresh air for the blues. Eric hails from Savannah, Georgia, where he started out working the usual club circuit. Soon Eric and his band became a local phenomenon. It was just a matter of time before he was introduced to Bob Greenlee at Kingsnake Records. One trip to the Kingsnake studios in Sanford, Florida, and Eric was signed and recording his first Kingsnake release, “Blues is my Religion” which went to 24 nationally on the blues air play charts. Currently Eric has 3 Cd's available for sale: Blues is my Religion, No Rules to the Game & Live at The Bamboo Room, which all could be purchased directly at the blues store via the bands website www.ericculberson.com. After over 17 years of playing and almost a million miles on the road the band has recorded a 4th CD at Elevated Basement. Kevin Rose and Miles Hendrix engineered the recording, while Phil Hadaway at 3180 Media Group will do the mastering. Bret Mosley, 7-11pm, FREE

Description
Texas-born, Brooklyn-based singer/songwriter Bret Mosley performs in a traditional folk and blues style, his solo gigs consisting of nothing but himself, a Dobro (played lap style with a slide), and a stompboard on which he keeps time with a booted foot. But he's not a hidebound traditionalist, and his music incorporates influences ranging from traditional country and first-generation Delta blues to hip-hop and Beck's similarly idiosyncratic take on the singer/songwriter stereotype. Although Mosley has been singing and playing since childhood, his press bio claims that, prior to becoming a professional musician, he held jobs as "a linebacker, a fur trapper, a ballet dancer, a stockbroker, an actor, a computer programmer, and a yoga teacher." Settling in Brooklyn and becoming a regular on the local singer/songwriter scene, Mosley recorded his live-in-the-studio debut album, Light & Blood, in Woodstock, NY, and released it in late 2007 on the Woodstock Music Works label. Along with his solo performances, Mosley also performs with a backing band consisting of cellist Trevor Exter, bassist John Trent, and drummer Craig Santiago.

Though he may be best known as former front man and chief songwriter of the disbanded Carolina rock favorites Part Time Heroes, it's clear that Luke Cunningham's musical endeavors post-PTH have unquestionably been his finest work as a songwriter.

Garnering regional praise for what the Charleston Post & Courier calls "a fine example of sincerity in music", Cunningham's knack for penning heartfelt ...lyrics recently gained the young songwriter his first dose of international recognition when was called upon to write the soundtrack for the 2010 Canadian film 'Blood, Sweat & Beers.' After airing to over five million people in Canada this past May, the movie and Cunningham's music are scheduled to be showcased in some of 2010's largest film festivals throughout the United States, Canada and Europe.

Currently Luke Cunningham is in the studio with Crowfield guitarist/aspiring producer Micah Nichols putting finishing touches on Cunningham's first solo record-- due out this September. The highly-anticipated release is quite possibly Cunningham's most well-rounded collection of songs yet.

I have actually considered releasing old demos but I might have to wait for that decision to be made. It’s something I can’t think about at this time as I don’t want to step backwards in life. I’m always wanting to write and record new songs so a new EP is more likely to release than old demos. 2011 has been a great year so far with much success. A ton of shows, radio play, webzine and magazine press, radio interviews, recording a song for a movie soundtrack, releasing a new full-length record, all while getting ready to tour the West Coast and make a music video. Singer-songwriter P.J. Pacifico delivers a confident, upbeat collection of road-tested rock/pop music, on his upcoming June 7th Viper Records release, ‘Outlet’. With a radio-friendly sound that evokes Gin Blossoms and Matthew Sweet, and a storyteller’s cadence that has been compared to James Taylor, Pacifico appears poised for mainstream success with the new album, his third. The sense of hopefulness and groundedness is palpable, as is Pacifico’s ‘ownership’ of the new material – all of the tracks were performed live for months prior to recording the album, as Pacifico embarked on an extended residency in his home state of Connecticut, often playing as many as four nights per week.

Description
David Wayne Britt was born on October 1st, 1975 in Charlotte, North Carolina. He is a country music singer/songwriter, although he writes music in other genres as well. He started in music as a young buck playing the violin at age 3 and joining the church choir a couple years later. David has also written and published three books; Before They Play A Grand Slam, Button The Butterfly, and Sweet Dreams Little Baby.

In his early days David was a tennis player where he played for The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Later, after college, he played on a professional level as well. For the next several years David was a tennis teaching professional, but then later became a commercial real estate broker.

With the economy spiraling downwards in 2009 and a real estate market following close behind , David started writing music to pass the hours. That “time passing” has turned into several hundred songs written to date. To say he found his passion would certainly be true. He released his first album, “How We Do It Here” in September of 2011 and followed that with several singles including “Diddle Fiddle” and “Tramp Stamp.”

Today David is busy being a father to two little ones, a boy and a girl, and is writing and recording songs everyday. David lists his favorite fiddlers as Charlie Daniels and Boyd Tinsley and his favorite band as the Dave Matthews Band. David is also a big fan of country music legend David Ball, and considers him a good friend and mentor

Based in Wichita, Kansas, Knost has been playing in various groups most of his life, some gaining radioplay and touring throughout the midwest. In 2005, he began going to open mics and singing some of his original songs, written quietly in hotel rooms and backrooms of bars. Gaining some attention, he then decided to fullfill a lifelong dream and started his professional solo career in March 2007, living solely on income generated from honorariums and merchandise. Incorporating looping, delay, and swirling harmonies built in real time, Knost presents catchy tunes, clever lyrics and masterful performance that will have you convinced that there’s an entire band on stage. Tony Furtado grew up in Pleasanton, CA and took up the banjo at age 12. At age 19, he entered himself in the banjo playing competition at the venerable bluegrass festival in Winfield, Kansas (Walnut Valley Festival) and won the Grand National Championship. Hailed as a banjo prodigy, he got his first record deal in 1992 and has been making music and releasing records ever since. As he was cementing his reputation as banjoist extraordinaire, Furtado was also developing himself into an equally virtuosic slide guitarist. With a genuine combination of American soul and an upbeat pop-rock style, Matt has emerged as one of the go-to indie front men in the southeastern U.S. He first cut his teeth in the music scene of Orlando Florida during his time at Rollins College while earning a degree in vocals, composition and guitar. In 2008, Matt was lured to Charleston along the South Carolina coast—where his single “Drive” has been regularly featured on radio at 105.5 The Bridge. When around home, Matt also performs regularly at the iconic venue The Windjammer. Matt’s trademarks are a big voice, authentic songwriting, personable nature and an extra dose of funny.

As his popularity spreads far beyond his roots, Matt’s sophomore CD No Turning Back continues to meet embracing live audiences across the country—from Boston to Austin, from Park City to New York City.
