Description"Their music is a laid-back mix of Americana, a loose blend of folk and bluegrass with rich harmonies. They've got a solid body of originals that moves from country sing-alongs and barroom stompers to narrative stories with great hooks. And best of all, they groove together like a band that's been playing together for years. " DB - High Country News

DescriptionGuitar player and songwriter Scott Holt describes his art “a singular and supreme form of prayer.” Widely recognized as one of the greatest guitar players of the modern era, Scott Holt continues to imagine and reshape traditional approaches to blues and rock guitar. Jaw dropping performances that leave his audiences breathless, weak in the knees and begging for more have become his signature. The Nashville based guitarist hasn’t strayed far from his childhood home. Although he spent parts of his childhood in Mississippi and Texas, Scott Holt was raised in Tennessee. Hearing Jimi Hendrix for the first time as a kid drove Scott to a single-minded focus the guitar. To hear Scott’s mother tell the story, “As a kid, Scott practiced 8 or 10 hours a day. There just wasn’t anything else”. Holt met Buddy Guy at age 20 and the rest is history. After hearing Buddy play one night at The London Victory Club in Tampa, Scott got the chance to meet the legend and spend some time jamming with him. Buddy and Scott became fast friends, and in 1989 Buddy called Scott and asked Scott to join his touring band. Scott spent the next 10 years touring with Buddy. Scott’s friend and mentor schooled him in the history and soul of the blues - Sonny Boy Williamson, Little Walter, Muddy Waters and Howlin’ Wolf, not to mention cognac and the many uses of the word motherf***er. Buddy Guy called Scott his “secret weapon.” When asked about breaking strings in Guitar Player magazine Buddy Guy said, “Yeah…I break ‘em on anything…but I got a great guitarist with me, Scott Holt…so if I break ‘em all, he can make you forget I’m gone!” Scott began writing songs and working with his own band during breaks from Guy’s international touring schedule. In 2000, with encouragement from his mentor, Holt left Buddy Guy’s band to develop his own career. Produced by the legendary Eddie Kramer, Holt’s first major solo release in 2000, Dark Of The Night, featured an amazing collection of musicians, including Mitch Mitchell, Billy Cox, Tommy Shannon, Chris Layton and Reese Wynans. Four amazing records have followed, Including Angels In Exile, Chipped Front Tooth, Revelator and From Lettsworth To Legend – A Tribute To Buddy Guy. His 2007 release on Audio Fidelity, From Lettsworth to Legend - A Tribute to Buddy Guy, is Scott’s expression of respect for his blues heritage and love for his mentor. “I wanted to bring myself to some of the gifts that Buddy has given me over the years, without losing track of the heritage,” said Holt. Among the standouts are the Buddy Guy classics Damn Right I’ve Got The Blues and When My Left Eye Jumps. Scott’s fluid phrasing and rich tone on Lettsworth result in a fitting tribute to a true legend and one of the best blues recordings of recent memory. Scott takes his musical lineage and his obligation to his fans very seriously. Rooted firmly in the blues, Scott’s original material transcends traditional forms and continues to shine on every new release. Working constantly, Scott performs over 200 shows each year at venues all over the world and maintains a busy recording schedule. Look for Scott’s latest release on Gracetone, entitled KUDZU, beginning in the Summer of 2010.
Daryl Hance (of Mofro), $5

DescriptionConjuring up a soothing air of smolderingly hypnotic bluesy guitar passages and rock solid funky grooves, Daryl Hance is an artist who sings his songs and his guitar with a cool abandonment. Contrasting from dark and brooding to a recognition and celebration of all things, his songs and music are as much about the moment we all live in as they are a reflection of experiences that span a lifetime. A prolific well straight out of the book of normal everyday life. Residing amongst the pine forest of Northeast Florida miles from the nearest town on a lot of land purchased by his father back in 1980, Daryl Hance was born in Topeka, Kansas on November 27th 1968. His family moved from Topeka in July 1972 and he spent much of the early part of his life in the zone between the bright city lights and the sticks just south of Atlanta, GA during the 1970's and early 1980's. Making frequent trips with his family back to their home town of Jacksonville, Florida throughout this period of his life, Daryl became accustomed early on to Florida being home. His family relocated back there in January 1983 in the midst of his 9th grade school year. Other than living in London, England for 12 months during late 1990s, he has called Northeast Florida home ever since. Finding his way to the guitar during his last year of high school by way of his 1986 tax return check, he purchased a Black Squire Stratocaster and a Peavy amplifier, and later that same year started a band with friends. With this band over the next three years he played a few gigs around Jacksonville and spent countless nights making music in a trailer located in rural Baker County, Florida. They also rented and shared a few practice rooms in the Riverside area of Jacksonville with other bands during this time. Although his main instrument has always been guitar, Daryl became familiar with other instruments along the way as well. The bass guitar, the keys and piano a little from time to time, and picking up his first instrument again, the drums... "My first love was the drums, I just can't resist a beat that makes you move. I became exposed to the drums from being around friends and a cousin who had drum sets. I was hooked! I'll never forget being at a friend's house and him letting me play his drums when I was 11. I was so excited I immediately went home to tell my dad that was what I wanted to do and to ask if I could get a drum set. Well he wasn't home, so I walked several miles to where he was (at a fishing buddy's house visiting) just to tell him that's what I wanted to do with my life. Well, several months later for my birthday he traded his friend a rifle for a set of drums for me. Then, about a year and a half later I came home from school one day and discovered my drum set was missing and dad's rifle was back on the gun rack in the den." In February 1990 Daryl received a call from JJ Grey, a friend he had met when they worked together at an air conditioning company on Jacksonville's west side back in 1986. Becoming re-aquainted they spent the early-mid 1990s piecing together several different projects before starting the rock and soul band Mofro (JJ Grey & Mofro) in the late 1990s. Releasing four acclaimed albums, they have been playing and touring almost constantly in the United States since 2001, as well as in Canada, Europe, and Australia . During this time, Hance has been steadily building up his own repertoire of homecrafted songs and musical ideas. Daryl has been writing music since he started playing guitar in 1986, but had only dabbled in songwriting from time to time. It wasn't until 1997 while recording music at home one night after work that he discovered he could actually sing and write songs for himself. After returning home to Florida from London in September 1999, where he had joined Grey in getting Mofro going, he went to work. When not touring with Grey and Mofro or working a day job, he spent much of his time writing and recording song demos and honing his craft. Working to make his voice and guitar at ease with one another. Daryl about his music... "it's bluesy funky rock music focused on songs and strong grooves. Largely a sum of all my biggest influences rooted in older blues, funk, and rock music... Curtis Mayfield, Jimi Hendrix, Sly and the Family Stone, Stevie Wonder, Tony Joe White, Muddy Waters... with some early Black Sabbath-AC/DC kind of hard rock funkiness to it." "Lyrically, most of the songs come from life experiences... love, relationships, sex, fear, hope, etc... The sort of things that life offers up to everyone I guess. Dynamically things can get loud but I tend to lean toward the mellower side of loud. I like to feel the bass and drums, and ride on top of a fat groove. So rhythmically its more rooted in the funk area like Sly and the Family Stone, Muscle Shoals, Memphis/Stax, etc... I'm sure a little New Orleans and Motown rhythm inadvertently ended up in the mix somewhere too. It is loud guitar music but, I do emphasize that it's all about fat beats, monster grooves, and wide open spaces. The guitar more so rides or bounces around on top and digs down in there to work the groove now and again." "Live, It's music that people can move around and have a good time to, in the form of a dynamic three piece band that plays mostly 3 to 4 minute songs in the spirit of an old-school singing along rock and roll show!" Currently he is working out songs live in order to get them into shape for a real hand-tooled studio recording hopefully out sometime in 2010. Daryl and his band with Anthony Cole on Drums, and Shane Platten on Bass, will be out there rockin' the box and movin' some cans around in a town near you soon. So be on the lookout and watch for the debut album which is gonna be droppin' all up in y'all's grills sometime in 2010!

DescriptionOne of Chicago’s most exciting new bands, On The Run, has steadily developed a loyal fan base that can best be described as rabid. Packing venues up and down the east coast and of course in their hometown, the band seamlessly blends genres and touches audiences of all age groups and walks of life. A combination of skilled songwriting and a stage show that you will not soon forget, has earned On the Run invitations to play at some of the nations most esteemed venues including Chicago’s “The Metro” and NYC’s “Webster Hall” among many others. Their sound can best be described as a unique blend of soulful vocals, thoughtful, attention grabbing guitar riffs complimented with a tight, pocket oriented rhythm section. This volatile combination, combined with On the Run’s attention to detail and dynamics makes for danceable, yet all the while emotional music. On The Run has been recognized for unabashedly tackling difficult subjects and feel good music alike to reflect the whole range of human emotion. Rock, Roots, Reggae, Blues; the band does them all a service without overplaying any one genre. They are in some respects a jam band, but know how to employ song structure and refuse to let lyrical content fall by the wayside. Ultimately, it seems that On the Run has taken the stylistics and musicality that have worked for many of the greats in the past; and have made it their own. The result is a sound that is new and refreshing, yet nostalgic at the same time.

DescriptionThe Gospel According to The Rev. Dr. Johnny Mac “A religious experience” describes a Rev. Dr. Johnny Mac performance. If you scan the crowd during one of The Rev.’s shows, you’ll see bodies undulating, sweat dripping, hands waving and jaws dropping as he whips the audience into a frenzy in true revival fashion. His voice emanates from a special place familiar to those who have experienced intense pain, sorrow, joy, and anger. His guitar work is masterful, powerful, and intense. A true performer, The Rev. oozes sensuality—leaving women, and even men, wanting more. Many a straight man has confessed to having a “guy crush” on this extraordinary artist. A sensory trifecta, The Rev. Dr. Johnny Mac will amaze your ears, eyes, and soul. True to his Southern roots, The Rev’s musical career began at the age of three while playing gospel and church hymns on the piano and listening to George Jones and Merle Haggard with his father. Beyond his Southern roots as the son of a military family, The Rev.’s influences expanded with his world, bringing Motown and the British invasion to his AM radio in Hawaii. The Rev. received his first acoustic guitar from his father while he was serving in the Vietnam War, and so it began. Through the years, the music took The Rev. to Memphis, Austin, and finally Los Angeles, where fate took a strange turn. Just as he was contemplating joining Koko Taylor’s band, an accident caused him to lose a fingertip on his fret hand, putting his plans and playing on hiatus. Today, The Rev. picks and slides better than most people with all 10 fingers. As Griel Marcus, Harry Smith aficionado says, “The weirdness means the story will always be new.” True to that statement and like a preacher ministering to his flock, The Rev. Dr. Johnny Mac’s message is the human experience, in all its weirdness, calamity, and humor; and it’s new every time. If you’re not human, you won’t get it. His repertoire can be described as soul stew. The Rev. defies convention by crossing the borders of genre. He can take a pop ballad by the Bee Gees and turn it into his own unique brand of passionate and poignant testimony, followed by a purist rendition of Muddy Waters’ “Rollin and Tumblin,” topped off by a steaming, hot version of The Rolling Stones’ “Monkey Man.” His original music is exceptional and just as varied. Johnny Mac has been compared to Jeff Beck, Johnny Winter, Billy Gibbons, Duane Allman and Stevie Ray Vaughn, to name but a few. Beyond mere blues guitar, The Rev. Dr. Johnny Mac is something much more. As dark as the night, as bright as the sun, as cold as the grave and as hot as the fires of Hell. Testify Ya'll! DescriptionThe dual slide guitars of Delta Moon carry the listener deep into the heart of the American South, where sinuous Mississippi blues meets the gritty backwoods twang of Appalachia and winds around a rock-steady beat like kudzu on a barbwire fence. The American Roots Music Association named whiskey-voiced Tom Gray 2008 Blues Songwriter of the Year. His songs have been recorded by Cyndi Lauper (including the hit “Money Changes Everything”), Manfred Mann, Carlene Carter, Bonnie Bramlett and many others. Tom was born in Washington D.C. and grew up in Virginia and Georgia, but home was always the family farm in the North Carolina mountains. In the 1980s he led a rock group, The Brains, that recorded two albums on Mercury Records. Originally a keyboard player, Tom picked up his first lap steel guitar in the late 1980s and hasn’t really put it down yet. While not born in the South, Mark Johnson did grow up in a trailer park in Ravenna, Ohio. His uncle owned a record store, and there was always music in the Johnson home. Mark played guitar in bands all through high school. In the early 1990s he moved to Atlanta, where he formed a band called the Rude Northerners. About that time he abandoned standard tuning and became obsessed with bottleneck slide. When Tom and Mark first met in an Atlanta music store, Tom tried to sell Mark a Dobro out of the back of his van. Tom remembers the girl with Mark whispering, “Let’s get out of here.” Mark didn’t buy the guitar, but the two exchanged phone numbers and soon were playing together regularly in coffee shops and barbecue joints around Atlanta. Mark came up with the name Delta Moon after a pilgrimage to Muddy Waters’ cabin near Clarksdale, Mississippi. When the band added bass and drums and started playing nightclubs and festivals around Atlanta and the South, they quickly gathered a wall full of local “best” awards. After winning the International Blues Challenge in Memphis in 2003, Delta Moon widened its travels to include the US, Canada, and Europe. Drummer Darren Stanley and bassist Franher Joseph joined Delta Moon in 2007. Darren, originally from Stone Mountain, Georgia, and Franher, from Haiti by way of Jonesboro, Georgia, have played together off and on since they first met in the University of Georgia Redcoat marching band, when Darren played snare and Franher played Sousaphone. Delta Moon’s latest CD, Hellbound Train, is out now in Europe on the Blues Boulevard label, and in the United States, Canada and Japan by Red Parlor Records.

Descriptionplay music that doesn't want to be stuffed into any particular pigeon hole too tightly. Some of it's rockabilly, some is blues, some of it's rockabilly and blues rolled into one. Some of it is old honkey tonk style and some of it is soul music. It's Americana. I sure hope you like it. I've played music my whole life all over the US, parts of Canada and some of Europe. I've also had about 200 different jobs, like tying steel in a big ditch or working as a stage hand and as a high rigger, I've driven a truck, I've worked 2600 feet under ground in the worlds largest copper mine, built scaffold 150 feet in the air for a rock show. Sometimes the music was in-between the jobs and sometimes the jobs were in-between the music. I left home at 15. My mother was off her nut just a tad and my dad was a mite overbearing - so I left. People would look at it now and say I was homeless, (and I was), but I felt like I had hit the lottery to be out of that house. But.... it was a damn lot of work surviving because 15 year old kids don't get payed much at a vegetable stand, a car wash, as a dishwasher - you know what I mean. I've had troubles but I've survived just fine and and maybe that's why they call me "Lucky". I'm just gonna' leave out the chapter on romance. Let's just say, I've had a few. Well, what's the point of all this? Just this; if I sing you a song it ain't about how I THINK it feels.

Description.. A prolific songwriter whose lyrical prose and fervent work ethic have drawn comparisons to Bob Dylan, Ryan Adams and David Gray, Ian McFeron broke into the Seattle music scene after his self-produced debut album “Don’t Look Back” (2003) was discovered by “The Mountain” in Seattle (AAA-formatted KMTT at 103.7 FM). An independent and virtually unknown local artist at the time, McFeron’s heartfelt lyrics and tightly composed songs inspired the media giant to put the album’s lead off single, “Love Me Twice,” into rotation. Listeners responded strongly, and within months, McFeron and his newly formed band would share the spotlight with international and national artists such as Patty Griffin, Mike Doughty, Nanci Griffith, Shawn Mullins, Amos Lee, Sister Hazel, Missy Higgins, Carbon Leaf, and Hayes Carll. A compulsive tunesmith and obsessive writer since childhood, McFeron has continued to release a steady stream of albums since his debut. His blues-rock sophomore release, “A Long Way To Freedom” (2005), would be soon followed by the rock-Americana record “Fistfight With Father Time” (2006), the rootsy-pop anthem “Let It Ride” (2007), and his much-anticipated fifth full-length LP, “Love Me Blue” (2009), a ghostly, melodic album with themes of unrequited love and the trials of faith, delicately laced with the unyielding voice of hope that has created life-long fans out of his listeners. Still a fully independent artist and self-functioning record label, McFeron has dedicated himself to building audiences the old fashioned way: on the road. Living for months on end in his vintage 1970 tour bus, McFeron travels from city to city, state to state inspiring listeners with his beautifully crafted songs and his sincere heart. On the road, McFeron (vocals, guitars, piano) is joined by Alisa Milner, a Texas-style fiddler, cellist, and harmony vocalist and by the backbeat rhythms of Norman Baker (bass) and Mark Bateman (drums). The diverse musicianship of its members allows the Ian McFeron Band to shift smoothly through a variety of roots-Americana styles, ranging from acoustic folk-rock to gritty alt-country blues, from heartfelt, soulful ballads to driving, danceable backbeat groves. Gaslight Street, $5

DescriptionSoul music will never go out of style. Just like Otis Redding and the Allman Brothers spawned from the same bluesy roots, Gaslight Street melds pure Southern rock with charismatic vocals, traipsing the boundaries of blues and funk. Born in the growing musical bastion of Charleston, SC, Gaslight Street’s regional presence has grown behind the release of their debut album, Blue Skies for Fools. Featuring the unmistakably soulful lyrics and vocals of Campbell Brown, the disc strongly stakes the band’s place as worthy inheritors of the Southern soul tradition. Lead singer Brown initially made his name with country/rock band Live Oak, before recruiting guitarist/organist Jason Stokes to join him in Charleston in 2006, forming a more songcraft-oriented band in Gaslight Street. Drummer Brooks Nelson and bassist Frank Nelson go well beyond backing up the band, providing a steady rhythm that’s both consistently solid and innovative. With a sound grown from influences ranging from the Neville Brothers to Molly Hatchet, Gaslight Street manages to consistently maintain a signature style that holds its own with the best Southern-fried soul acts of today. They’re currently at work on their follow-up to Blue Skies for Fools, with plans for a late 2010 release. Give Blue Skies a spin and relax with the easy-going, uplifting vibe of an intelligently crafted rock band; drunk on music history and high on artistic imagination. DescriptionUke-abilly. Retro-Pop. Rock 'n' Roll. Mad Tea Party brews up rock 'n' roll, garage-pop and honky tonk to create a fresh and intoxicating sound. "It's B-52s meets Buddy Holly with a lot more thump." Musical conspirators Ami Worthen and Jason Krekel serve up an exciting live show to music lovers thirsty for upbeat, original refreshment. Delicious harmonies glide over electrified ukulele, juke-joint guitar, scratchy fiddle and pulsing foot percussion. Catchy songs are steeped in raw rockabilly with shreds of doo wop and devilish blues. Drink deep - Mad Tea Party concocts a musical recipe that will make you boogie. The band's dynamic show has been catching people's attention across the country. Metro Santa Cruz described it this way, "More a spectacle than a traditional two-person band, Mad Tea Party consists of vocalist and ukulele strummer Ami Worthen and guitarist, fiddler and drummer Jason Krekel. As Worthen reels out charming and quirky songs with an arch sense of humor, Krekel does double- and triple-duty, creating the illusion of a much bigger band with only two arms and two legs. It's a sight to behold...but Mad Tea Party's unique sound is just as worthy of note. A bubbly amalgam of juke-joint blues, pop, tiki exotica and rockabilly, the band has honed an approach that is unique and affecting without being too precious." Based in Asheville, NC, Mad Tea Party maintains a rigorous touring schedule.

Local reviewers have been “blown away” by the band’s live shows, and the Wrecks have been officially dubbed “The Hardest Gigging Band in Savannah”, a testament to the love and dedication they have for their music. The band recently completed the recording of their debut CD “Whiskey & War”, and released it in the fall of 2007. The reviews rolled in! The Connect dubbed the record “simply a revelation….the kind of simultaneously slick and raw record which Ryan Adams regularly cranks out to much critical acclaim”, while Murmur Magazine called it the “best record to come out of Savannah in years”. This CD was selected by TAXI and the editors of Billboard Magazine to participate in the Disc Makers’ Independent Music World Series Southeast in Atlanta, GA. DescriptionHomegrown Music Network CD Review Snake Oil July 7, 2009 The Lefty Williams Band spotlights scorching guitar, soulful lyrics, and wistful keyboard in their second studio release...In reviewing “Snake Oil,” I found myself impressed with Lefty Williams’ guitar tone and his vocal skills. He writes lyrics about feelings that are close to us all as humans. His perspectives seem wise and seasoned when discussing such matters. Maybe this is a reflection of the life that he has lived. DescriptionStarting in the summer of 2003, Papa String Band members Daron LaBruyere and Brett Mello started turning heads on the rocks of the Broad River. Many would gather 'round to listen to their new take on ol' time bluegrass. In May of 2004 the duo decided to take their act to local bars and restaurants, and have been performing frequently in Columbia ever since. In January of 2005 talented keyboardest Will Smith joined up with Papa String in an attempt by all to stretch the boundaries of traditional bluegrass music. This element of unconventional instrumentation has allowed the band to explore and expand areas of their own music that once seemed unattainable. The Papa String Band is not just confined to bluegrass, but has evolved into an ever-changing, spontaneous, and unpredictable sensory experience. So kick off your shoes, and hold on to your booze, cause the Papa String Band's coming to town!

DescriptionAthens, GA, sonic interpreter of indie freak folk music Efren is a folk group hinting on the psychedelic, from areas around Athens, GA. Reaching out into the musical world with introspective lyrics and brooding energy, efren entertains on many levels. In the past few month efren has recorded, released and supported the debut album ‘Thunder and Moan’ and now has a follow up EP ‘Always Been a Bleeder’. The recorded albums are hard and quiet, while the live show invigorates the music and delves deeper into the compositions, exploring the sonic textures. The players of this music have roots in jazz and blues, folk, bluegrass and rock. Efren touches on Southern Americana music, draws from indie lo-fi ideas, and respects the multitudes of great songwriters of our past. Lyrically driven, but emotionally wandering. Stories of trying to lose love, dreams of family past, tall boys, gambling, and whiskey stills… “…can invoke a trance-like state, similar to Bon Iver or Iron and Wine. The songs on Always Been a Bleeder are a gorgeous compilation of introspective, folk rock that injects a psychedelic dose into the standard southern groove.” ~Nadia Lelutiu, Silver Tongue “Roots with occasional layered vocals, his sound is that of one who's lived through much and dug into the depths of his heart to share it with us.” ~Echoryn of Athens .com “Efren’s acoustic guitar and occasionally despairingly dark lyricism deliver the opposite of so much tacky “Americana” and “New Roots” music. Rather than reinforce a feeling of place and point-of-view, they amplify the supreme disconnectedness that overwhelms everyone intermittently and a few of us permanently. In it, even things held in hand seem just out of reach.” ~Gordon Lamb, Flagpole Efren is presented as a full band, duo or solo. All formations intrigue ideas and experiences that affect the audience and venues with new sounds and performance. Efren is currently performing around the Southeast, and has plans of venturing out about the US and trying Europe in late 2010. Please, check out efren. Read more: http://www.myspace.com/efrenrock

DescriptionCounty Line Strangers may be one of the newest players in the rock/alt-country scene, but they are hardly music industry rookies. Consistently touring and recording with each other for over 6 years, this four-piece band is not afraid to experiment with their fine-tuned sound. Infusing their punk-rock past with their southern roots, County Line Strangers produce a weathered, yet fresh sound. Combining elements of Social Distortion’s energy with honest lyrics similar to Ryan Adams and rowdy, classic rock hooks, the Strangers prove passionate talent like theirs can give a new band an established sound.

DescriptionAfter many years of strumming a six string, writing songs, stirring up trouble while touring the country, music has become the lifeblood of Ken Will Morton. He can't stop. is he nuts? probably. after many bombastic yet traditional rock band experiences, In the spring of the new millenium , Ken joined the fantastic Indicators. 2003 saw the release of the band’s sophomore CD, Kill the Messenger, a rootsy pop rock record, which received rave reviews from No Depression, Relix, Harp, Paste Magazine and more. he also learned a lot from fellow bandmates with far more skill and experience under their belts. In the summer of 2002, Ken backed former Guadalcanal Diary front man Murray Attaway as lead guitarist in The Redeemers for a few shows. While Ken had a great time with these projects, he wanted to pursue his ambition of becoming a full-time musician and simply find an outlet for his quickly acruing song reserves. He left The Indicators in spring of 2004, relocated to Athens, Georgia, and worked to finish his first solo record. In Rock ‘n’ Roll’s Hands was self-released in June of 2004. The recording process was a long and often difficult one for Ken, who spent a long year of sporadic recording with Chuck Jopski at Summer House Sound in Hoschton, GA. With a smoky, life-worn vocal styling reminiscent of Springsteen, Westerberg and Dylan, and heartfelt lyrics about the frailties of life, In Rock ‘n’ Rolls Hands captured the attention of music critics across the country. The disc has received rave reviews in No Depression, Harp Magazine, Paste Magazine and Performing Songwriter, as well as airplay on many charting non-commercial radio stations such as KUT in Austin, WNCW in Charlotte and WPPP hot 100.7 in athens. Ken toured the U.S. behind the release, sharing the stage with such folks as Tommy Stinson, Edwin McCain, Todd Snider, Sugarland, Dick Dale, Angie Aparo, Cary Hudson, Randall Bramblett, and more. A short tour of Ireland in 2004 included a performance at the renowned Ruby Sessions in Dublin. In March 2006, Ken Will released his second solo effort The King Of Coming Around on Fundamental Records. Recorded with producer Rob Gal (Josh Joplin, Swimming Pool Qs), and some with Ben Holst (Love Tractor), the album features the likes of Brann Dailor (Mastodon), John Neff (Drive By Truckers), Billy Holmes (Love Tractor) Kyle Harris (ex Kenny Howes and the Yeah), and Patrick Ferguson (ex Five Eight). A diverse collection of rock, pop, Americana, blues, gospel and folk songs, the album received favorable press from Harp, Paste, Georgia Music Magazine, No Depression, American Songwriter, Jambands.com and more. Morton spent the spring and summer of 2006 touring the Southeast in support of the record with his backing band, The Wholly Ghosts. In March of 2007, Ken Will performed two showcases at the annual South-By-Southwest convention in Austin, TX. Later that spring, he was nominated for “Best Solo Performer in Athens” by The Flagpole Magazine and made his 4th appearance at AthFest, the annual arts and music festival held in Athens, GA. Ken Will spent the winter of 2007 putting the finishing touches on not one, but TWO new full-length releases. Devil In Me is a collection of 10 new “rock” songs, recorded in the basement. On Kickin’ Out The Rungs, Ken Will once again aligned with producer Chuck Jopski at Summerhouse Sounds Studios. More of an acoustic based album, the CD features another 10 new songs, including “That’s All Behind Me Now,” a tune co-written with Kristen Hall of the multi-platinum band Sugarland. DescriptionHis father's legacy lives on in the tools of his art. Big Bill has both Muddy's touring amp and the guitars on which he composed some of his earliest works. More importantly, Bill carries Muddy's spirit and love for the blues, and says he feels a spiritual bond with his father when he's on stage. "My dad had a reputation for being a very dignified person, a very proud man. He gave us kids all a certain inner strength to go out and do whatever we needed to do." Musically, his father's influence came somewhat later. "Whenever I got the chance to hear him, it struck me strongly." But Bill didn't start off with the idea of being a professional musician until years later. It wasn't until after his father's death in 1983 that Bill decided to explore his musical heritage. "It gave me such an empty feeling, like someone had pulled the bones out of my body, like something was missing. I never sat down and asked all the questions I had for him. Now I feel like I get a chance to talk to him through my music."
